Heritage Home Trim Restoration

Restoration and replication of original trim work in a 1920s Kitsilano heritage home. We matched existing profiles, repaired damaged sections, and installed new trim in a renovated portion of the home to maintain historical consistency.

The Challenge

The homeowners were renovating part of their 1920s Kitsilano home and wanted new areas to seamlessly match the original trim work. Several original pieces were damaged or missing, and the existing profiles weren't available from any modern supplier.

Our Solution

We carefully documented and measured the existing trim profiles, then had custom knives made to replicate them exactly. Damaged original trim was repaired where possible; where replacement was needed, new pieces were milled to match perfectly. All trim was painted to match the original color palette.

The Challenge

Heritage homes deserve heritage-quality work. When the owners of this beautiful 1920s Kitsilano home decided to renovate their kitchen and add a bathroom, they insisted that all new trim work match the original profiles throughout the house.

Our Process

  1. Documentation: Photographed and measured all existing trim profiles
  2. Profile Matching: Created detailed drawings and had custom cutting knives made
  3. Material Selection: Sourced clear-grade lumber suitable for the intricate profiles
  4. Milling: Ran all trim through a custom setup to replicate the original profiles
  5. Installation: Installed new trim and repaired damaged originals
  6. Finishing: Color-matched paint to the home’s historical palette

Scope of Work

  • Crown molding in new kitchen and bathroom (32 linear feet)
  • Baseboard throughout renovated areas (85 linear feet)
  • Door and window casings (6 openings)
  • Repair of water-damaged original trim (3 sections)
  • Complete paint finishing

Result

You can’t tell where the original ends and the new begins. The renovation seamlessly integrates with the 100-year-old character of the home.
